Impersonation: fake staff, middlemen and big traders
Scammers copy the name, avatar and style of people you trust: server staff, well-known traders, middlemen, even TrustDB. The copy can look perfect. The ID is what they cannot copy.
Impersonating a trusted user, brand or staff member for payment is a valid reason to report someone on TrustDB, and so are fake middleman services.
Warning signs
- "Staff" or "support" who message you first.
- A request for payment, a "verification fee", or login details.
- A famous name on a brand-new account, or a name with a swapped or extra letter.
- Pressure to move to a different server or app that is "the official one".
- An offer to remove a record, unban you or unlock a trade for a fee.
Do and don't
The short version. Skim this first.
Do
- Copy the user ID and compare it with the real person's ID, taken from an official place such as the server's staff list, a pinned post or their official profile.
- Look the ID up in the lookup and see whether it has a TrustID with linked accounts.
- Contact the person or the staff through a channel you already know is real, such as the server's official ticket system.
- Remember what TrustDB staff never do: they never ask for passwords, tokens or 2FA codes, or for payment.
- Get invites to official servers from the official website, not from a message.
- Block, then report the impersonator to the platform and on TrustDB.
Don't
- Don't trust a display name, avatar, server tag or role colour.
- Don't pay "staff" to remove a record, lift a ban or verify your account. TrustDB doesn't take payment, gifts or favours to add, remove or soften a record, and offering one ends the case.
- Don't follow an invite from a DM to an "official" server.
- Don't share passwords, tokens or 2FA codes with anyone.
- Don't deal with a "big trader" who messages you out of the blue with an offer.
- Don't argue with the impersonator. Save the evidence, block and report.
If it already happened (you dealt with an impersonator)
- Stop talking to them and don't send anything else. Save the chat, their ID and their profile link.
- If you paid, follow what to do if you've been scammed. If you gave login details, follow the account takeover guide.
- Report them to the platform, then report the deal on TrustDB.
- Let the real person or the server's staff know, so they can warn their community.
- If someone is impersonating you, tell the platform and your server's staff. If a TrustDB record names the wrong account because of impersonation, appeal it as a wrong person.

Questions
- No. Staff never ask for passwords, tokens or 2FA codes, or for payment. Anyone who does is not TrustDB.
- No. Paying never changes a record. Lookups, reports and appeals are free. If you think a record is wrong, use an appeal.
- Get their ID from the server's official staff list or a pinned post, then look it up. A name or avatar on its own proves nothing, and some games do not allow middlemen at all.
